ALL: Hints for Making the Website Work

  1. Whenever you click on a link and your computer asks you if you want to "open" the file or "save" it, ALWAYS CLICK SAVE. ALWAYS. If you click open, your computer will likely freeze up. Also, if you save the document to your computer, then you don't have to worry about going on the Internet to find that document in the future.
  2. Looking for an update on a page on the Website that's not there? It's possible your computer is giving you a cached copy, or old version, of that page. Click on "refresh" and your computer will look for an updated copy of the page.

AP World: Dates for Unit 1 Test

WCCP1: Untouchables Questions

AP World: Essays for Test on Unit 1

  1. Think about Jared Diamond's factors for the collapse of a civilization (with Easter Island and Rwanda as examples), think about how Rome fell and why, and then think about the status of the United States today. It would be a good idea to do a PERSIA of collapse for Rome, Rwanda and Easter Island for as much information as you have.
  2. Think about the Sermon on the Mount from the Book of Matthew. What kind of civilization (in terms of PERSIA) would satisfy what Jesus is suggesting as the ideal society on earth?

WCCP1: Maps

Your first set of maps are ready and available online. Go to the WCCP Webpage, click on Unit 1, and find "Maps 1" there. Included are instructions about how to resize the maps if necessary.

AP World: Links from Today's Class

Click here to access Jared Diamond's Collapse. Listen on Real Player and scroll forward to approximately the 41st minute.

Click here to access WNYC's On the Media. If you are interested in the "lonelygirl15" story, click here for part 1 from the September 1st show and here for part 2. Go here and scroll one-third of the way down for the parody of Adolf Hitler's rehabilitation by media confession starring Jon Stewart.

Click here to see Green Helmet Guy on YouTube. It is clear as to what the point-of-view of GHG is, but what about the point-of-view of the media organization ZAPP? How about the point-of-view on this GHG source?

And click here to see Delaroche's Napoleon Crossing the Alps from 1850, 35 years after Napoleon was booted from power. The artist was born in 1797, and as such, he was an infant when Napoleon actually crossed the Alps. Here is David's version of the same scene completed in 1801--closer to the actual event, but a bit on the overly dramatic side.

WCCP1: Constitution Research Project

On Part I, be careful on the questions about when a Congressman's term starts or ends. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE between exactly when the Congressman is elected and exactly when the Congressman actually begins his term of service.

And Strom Thurmond is not currently the longest serving member of Congress. He's quite dead.

AP World: Reminder for Quest!

Chapters 2-4:

When studying, THINK PERSIA (politics, economics, religion, social class/society, intellect, art). There are a number of questions that compare the three centers of civilization from these various aspects.

From your MUST KNOW DATES, you must know dates from the beginning of agriculture to the end of the Han Dynasty. The rest of the test format is multiple choice and essay.
